Question: is anybody producing local tobacco products? I'm a smoker, for now, and if I could buy locally produced tobacco I would.

I wanted to share about local viticulture. Whispering Oaks Winery and Vineyard is located in Seymour, Missouri and is a member of the Ozark Mountain Wine Trail. Whispering Oaks grows all the grapes used in their products. They also sell grapes/juice to home wine makers, people who make jelly, and other commercial wineries. Why buy wine shipped from the east or west coast when you can buy local from the folks who planted the vines, harvest the grapes and make the wines? The wineries in Missouri use far fewer chemicals and resources since they grow cultivars that are native or hybrids of native grapes. www.WhisperingOaksWinery.com and www.OzarkMountainWineTrail.org.

I basically wasted $600 by purchasing beef from a local. I was naive enough to buy per pound unprocessed. Supposedly I was going to get various cuts of meat but in the end I ended up with about 50lbs of meat which was mostly hamburger with one or two roasts.

I'm going to be purchasing again but this time I'm looking for someone who is more legit. This time I'm looking for grass fed beef and I'm seeking to purchase already processed and I'm not interested in buying it by weight after it's frozen.

Anyone can steer me towards a legit processor I'd appreciate it. I'm also seeking an affordable meat storage or "locker" to store meat at.

Welcome to the new members who have joined us this last week. I hope to get some discussion going on local vendors who we can support. Does anyone know anything about the Book Castle on S. Campbell? I have heard them advertising somewhere recently. I used to shop at Well Fed Head --but apparently not enough as they closed their doors about a month ago.

Books are my weakness and I am looking for a source of new books as well as used. New books I have been getting at Borders and have gotten used books at Hooked On Books in the past.

Any other items that folks are looking for that could be purchased from local vendors?

I created this page because I was recently in the market for a new kitchen appliance and wanted to support a local business, if possible. Just like with local food purchases, money spent in local stores will stay local and provide more jobs for local residents. I plan to put up some articles and links to other websites promoting keeping money local when that is feasible. Low prices don't always provide the best opportunity to support our friends and neighbors.
