I'm new to this site, new to gardening, and not sure where to post questions. My tomatoes seem to be thriving so far; my squash plants, which were gorgeous and thick with blossoms a couple weeks ago, are fried; the cabbage looks awful, the peppers are shaded by the cabbage, and I didn't plant nearly enough green beans. They were amazingly good. Anyway, this is definitely a learning curve for me. What I would like to know is where can I find out what plants grow well in this region in the…

Joe, the rock dust I purchased was $29 a 50 lb bag, and $20 for delivery. I'm happy to dig up the contact info for you if you're still interested. I don't know how what I paid compares to what's acceptable. I also don't know how long it "lasts", when I should add more, why more gardening types aren't interested in it, and I've never had first hand experience with it. After reading about Azomite Rock Dust, I've been on a search for a local source. I was pretty astonished to learn that those places where I assumed they would at least know what rock dust is, did not know, did not carry it, did not know where I could find it. I also have a little worm farm so can add worm…

Cathy said… Green beans are a summer crop. They like the hott(er) weather. The main fall stuff is broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and brussel sprouts. It's too late to start those from seed, and I don't know of any place that has started plants. There SHOULD be some place, tho. If you can't find ant, let me know. My seedlings haven't got their true leaces yet, but will soon. I should have some extra broccoli and cauliflower.
You can also put out carrots, radishes, lettuce, peas and spinach now. They are also the early spring veggies, but do just as well, if not better, in the cool fall.
I didn't plant enough green beans, either. My kids love green beans and broccoli and I never have enough. I've got to put in another bed just for the green beans, I think.
Where are you? In Springfield? Maybe we could get together, and I can show you my garden set-up. It's small, but productive!
