Ruell Chappell commented on Kathy Vimont's blog post Specific Things You Can Do to Help Build Your Local Economy -- Starting Today, Right Now!
"There are many things about gardening and food production that are beneficial.  However, the economics and the sustainability that floats all boats is my focus.  If we grow food and sell food locally, not only do we create local food…"

What's Up With the New Food Bill, and How Will It Affect My Food Choices? at Springfield Livestock Marketing Center

January 18, 2011 from 7pm to 9pm
Do you know how the new Food Safety Modernization Act will affect you? Will it do what its proponents say it will, or will it negatively impact your right to produce and choose your own food? This meeting is organized by the Greater Ozarks Property Rights Congress. Our guest speaker will be Doreen Hannes, a nationally known expert on the National Animal ID System. She will educate us about this new bill and the expected outcomes of its provisions. Q & A will follow, so bring your questions.

Kathy Vimont replied to Joe Tittiger's discussion Viability of selling to big box stores in the group Farmers & Ranchers
"My sentiments exactly. While I support the idea of promoting local production, we run the risk of eliminating the competition (local stores). I like Ruell's idea of not contracting with Wal-Mart. We must support the local stores, and give them…"

Results of Get-To-Know-Your-Neighbor Picnic at Pasture Nectar Farm

I've posted a couple of photos of our neighborhood picnic held last Saturday at Pasture Nectar Farm (the Lawrence County Gateway farm). What a great day weather-wise! I hear the 1st Annual WFNA 5K Trail Run had an excellent turnout as well. We pulled our farm wagon into the front yard to put the food on - it was delicious! The turnout was not huge, but the smaller numbers really helped us get to know those neighbors who came better than with a large crowd. The children played, made new friends…See More

Have you held your know-your-neighbor event yet?

This is Kathy from the Lawrence County Gateway Farm, aka Pasture Nectar. One of the foundations of the WFNA plan is to build community. Remember the motto: Your best defense in hard times is a well fed neighbor. So, do you know your neighbors.....well enough to check in on them from time to time? How about knowing them so well that you can spot a vehicle in their drive that doesn't belong there? Do they know and trust you well enough to have you keep an eye on their house while they're on…See More

Heads up - SB 1619 will force people out of rural areas into cities

Folks, this is already accomplished in Singapore...the second highest population density in the world. The outcomes of this bill are anathema to the Well Fed Neighbor plan. One of our goals is to re-populate the rural areas with producers, not stack everyone up in high-rises. Please pay attention to what this bill is trying to accomplish and oppose it. http://www.blacklistednews.com/news-10631-0-15-15--.htmlThank you, Eric…See More

Freshly picked from the yard, lightly steamed with a little bit of olive oil and sea salt, doesn't get any better than that!
