Hummingbird Migration Maps & General Information
Posted to the blog at www.friendsofthegarden.org
Note from Mimi: Are you a hummingbird watcher? I guess the next dots on the map will be... hopefully coming closer to Missouri all the time... It will be fun to keep up with the map and see how far they are moving with each passing day...

There is now a low-end graphics tablet/digitizing tablet available at the WFN office in Springfield. It is a Wacom Graphire 3 tablet with both a stylus and a mouse. This gives folks the ability to do a lot more graphics, photo retouching, diagrams, etc., in-house. You can also use it to sign and process digital documents or proof-read/mark up documents.
Right now, the tablet is hooked up to the Windows XP machine currently connected to the network. Nothing more than the basic drivers… Continue

Are you aware that Well Fed Neighbor has a clothing bank? If you didn't know, now you do. We clothe mostly children, but have helped out several adults. With spring coming on, it's time to clean out the kids closets. If you have some clothing in good shape, that is of current style, please consider donating them to us. We also supply hygeine items as well as new socks and underwear for kids. You might be surprised how much a new toothbrush or hairbrush means to some folks as well as a book or… Continue

I am going to try to be at the WFN office tomorrow if my health permits it tomorrow morning. If I go, I will get there about 10:30 and can be there until some time after 3 pm so I will have some time to connect with people. If nothing else, I will spend the time working on the Transition Handbook. I have some office equipment to donate as well, including a graphics tablet. I will try to update my blog here before I leave tomorrow morning.
[Update: OK, I am actually on my way out.]

Try and stop me! I’m unpredictable. I move like a cat. Yep, I’m going to do it. Even now, instead of ground cover or wood chips and the like, I’ve got herbs growing right in front of my house! Brazen you say? I know, I can’t be stopped! There is more to come. I have found that cilantro, basil, chives, …. They all look pretty good! Add a few flowers in between and you’ve got something really different AND, the makings of many a salad over the summer.… Continue

On March 26, 2010, Galen and I visited a 700-acre farm that is located 2/10 of a mile east of Morrisville, MO on highway 215. The owners of the property are interested in possibly selling it with the intentions of developing it using sustainable practices. The possible idea is to design and create a small hamlet style village with a farm surrounding it. This farm is beautiful and full of great… Continue

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has over 3 million dollars in available grants for small farms. You may receive up to a $5000 grant intended for the purchase of renewable energies and energy efficient products. There are very few questions asked for this grant and seems easily available. You will have to pay 25% of the total
amount, out of pocket, and you can still receive the 30% federal tax credit on top of the grant. All applications for the grant are due by April 20th. I… Continue

What can we do to get better label laws passed? It aggrevates me that the Government says it's ok to genetically modify
the foods that me, my friends and family will buy at the store, but
what REALLY GETS ME is how they say "Yes we are going to genetically
modify your food, and we DON'T EVEN HAVE TO TELL YOU WHICH FOODS!"
believe that if the meat in the store came from a feed lot then it
should be labeled as such. I believe that if my vanilla extract,… Continue

One if the issues that we find in dealing with those in poverty is a lack of dental care. Dental Plans
are almost unheard of among the lower class in America. However, we have found that local dentists are often willing to donate their time and resources when asked.
You might be surprised how much difference well cared for teeth can make for a person. It can give the confidence they need… Continue

Follow the link below. Just when you thought we had the enemy identified here comes nanotechnology. Read this article and make sure you go through the sllde show to the left. The slideshow ends with a picture of fruit in a market. It says that our fruit may be sprayed abroad ( big surprise ) with a nanotech spray to increase shelf-life. of course, no studies have been done to study the impact to your health. Lord.…

It was suggested that I prepare a blog describing an Earth Day event that would be a collaborative, hands-on, site-specific installation with an ongoing message for Earth Day. This "work of art" would be a visual garden throughout the entire summer.
The project represents the Earth, blooming and bringing forth life. It represents a sense of community as several individuals take turns preparing the project to be presented as an event to the public. The project is the Earth made… Continue

Each year for several years I have done something to acknowledge Arbor Day and Earth Day. It is a commitment about which I feel very strongly. I would like to see (and be a part of) a WFNA statement or event to show support for both Arbor Day and Earth Day... It might be a small gesture but one that shows the public our commitment to honour these days set aside for this purpose. Various states have different days appointed to observe Arbor Day, but National…

Think about that statement. This is what my brothers from the Right say. Well, I'm ready when the time comes. I've got guns. I’ve got ammo. I’ve got food for 3 months. What then?
My tree hugging brothers and sisters are the same (you notice I’m leaving no one out. I'm somewhere in the middle like most but, all are welcome.) Our environmental extremists are SO pure that they scoff at backing away from a GMO, Big Farma, society. They want it all and they want it now. No… Continue

I've had such a great day that I decided to email you all about it. You may or may not know that our rooster died while we were on vacation. This morning I traded a friend some of my frozen cherries, a Continue
package of Jimmy's spent whiskey grain and 2 bars of soap for a one year

If it wasn’t so sad it would be extremely entertaining! Republicans, pointing fingers, trying to block, repeal, un-constitutionalize the health care legislation …. The Democrats pointing fingers, accusing Republicans for sour grapes, and touting the brilliance of a plan that probably won’t do one thing to help you or I save for costing us more money. It is amazing! Why…… because we buy into it. Go to any coffee shop and listen. People back and forth, on one side or the other. Arguing. About… Continue

http://https://www.myearthhour.org/about/mission-history-and-earth-hour-2010Has anyone heard of this thing called Earth Hour? On this certain date everyone is supposed to shut off all their lights to show that they love the planet. What are your thoughts on Earth Hour? Do you think that this movement will really help awaken the Government officials who promote… Continue
