The Time For Talking Has Past...

The time for talk has passed. We are currently assessing the need for a local cooperative that would funnel fresh, naturally grown, naturally ripened, naturally raised food into our city. It is this simple. If we verify the need, and I think we will; if we put our locally produced food into our homes, our schools, our hospitals, and our businesses, we will IMMEDIATELY pump hundreds of…

Moms 4 Local Food meeting 11:30 today at the Gastropub!

All are welcome to the Mom’s 4 Local Food meeting at the Gastropub, next to the Moxie, on Patton St., at 11:30. We need you! Women , and men… gotta say that so I don’t get all yelled at every time, will create the demand that will pull our local food through this economy. This is huge, it will lead to new investment in our town ( food processing), use of our food by institutions, businesses and homes…

It is on Everyone's Mind....

I was at a 5k run this morning representing the WFNA and local food and jobs, and was impressed that almost everyone I talked to had their own reason for buying in. Some mothers were interested in better food for their children in the school system. Some saw the immediate upside to our local economy. Some saw the impact local food could have on the local merchant in general through…

Wonder if Rome saw it coming?

Job losses continue at a decreasing rate. That means job losses continue. The dollars validity on the world market is questioned almost every week. China just took surpassed us for the umpteenth time in production…. This time wood. They get the wood from us by the way. Our economy and our supply lines stretch across the world. The Jobs that are/will come back ( they won’t approach…

Let Me Bring You Up To Speed!

Yesterday was a huge day. As part of the feasibility assessment for the Well-Fed Neighbor Farmers’ Coop, we met with major restaurant owners and managers to talk about a sustainable, fair business model. Discussions were inspiring and fruitful! I am convinced, should the data prove adequate demand and supply, that the Springfield Metro Area may be the first locale in the US that can truly…

A Value Chain?

What are value chains? The modern day version of a very old American model. Long ago, settlements NEEDED specific things. They NEEDED a general store. This was the supermarket, the hardware store, etc. Settlements needed a blacksmith. Settlements needed meat from ranchers in the area, produce and dairy from the farmers in the area.

We could argue if they needed a saloon. Regardless, it is easy to see that each of these key people/institutions were a must. A…

Dear Birthday Well-Wishers,

Thank you all for the happy birthday wishes! Today is my birthday and I’m getting the best birthday present I can imagine! Tonight, at the Gastropub in downtown Springfield, The Well-Fed Neighbor Alliance will announce the launch of the feasibility assessment for our Well-Fed Neighbor Farmers’ Coop. Joe Maxwell, Russ Kremer and more will be in attendance and it will be a great opportunity to socialize. This is the beginning. This is how we do it. I…

As For Us, We Will Do!

I want to write to wish all our Christian Friends a blessed Easter and all a blessed new beginning. From The Ground Up, we are taking our demand to control our local food, our local economy and our local health to the market, where it WILL be heard.…

Let's change what we CAN change. Don't talk! DO!

The Right says Healthcare reform marks the end of America. The Left wants health coverage for all…. Regardless. Status quo has health care costs rising at mind bending rates. The Change… who knows. Regardless,

what in the world do you think YOU can do about it? Not one thing.

It’s not about you. It’s not about health……….. and it’s certainly not

about care.

What it is about is the theater that is Politics.

What CAN we change? Our LOCAL situation. What we can do is…

Women comprise the largest economic force on the face of the earth so.........

We need stay at home mothers, professional women, and all permutations across the spectrum to help with our message. To be economically viable, locally grown food cannot just be found at Farmers' markets. It must have a place in your homes, in your schools, and in your hospitals. When this happens, we will have an economic engine that will support a real, ever-growing job base. AND, we'll have healthy, fresh food for our children…

Nature Will Find A Way...

I'm reminded of this daily. This is yet another reason i work to re-localize our food supply. Cows were not meant to be raised with thousands of other cows, in cramped, unsanitary conditions on feed lots. Cows were not meant to eat grain and ground up cow parts ( resulted in mad cow). When you force the unnatural, nature reacts. It reacts by creating a disease..... Mad cow , etc..... Just ask Russ Kremer from the movie fresh. He nearly died from being gored by an infected hog when he followed… Continue

Diana Bacon asked me to write out "What You Can Do"

First, i want to thank Diana for watching and helping me hone the message at the perfect time. It is so hard to keep everything in perspective from the big over-view down to planting seeds in my own backyard. Diana reminds me that i am communicating what i see in our future, the WFNA vision and our plan..... but i'm not spending enough time articulating what YOU can do on the ground everyday, times, events, etc.

Ok, here goes.

Diana is in our "most needed" demo. Diana is a FEMALE… Continue

There Is only One Way Home...

The stats are coming in for last year. Apparently, the stimulus monies had a net effect of 0 on the job market in locales all over the US. It was a boon for construction companies and helped them keep current employees working....but effectively, no jobs were added. This is the problem with top down. It NEVER works. Once "Cash for clunkers" was over, car sales dropped. The minute the tax credit for new buyers is over.... the same will happen with real estate. There are no underpinnings to… Continue

Work Is A Four Letter Word!

It seems to me that everyone we speak with agrees that it is time to take our food, our economy, our freedom back. BUT that comes with a LOT OF RESPONSIBILITY! If you want to be free you must NOT TAKE MONEY FROM THE GOV. Free enterprise is, and always has been, the way. 100 years ago our home was the PERFECT EXAMPLE. The most affluent lived here, everyone had a job, we fed the country its apples, berries and produce, the world its tomatoes...... and we did it by ourselves! Farmers must farm,… Continue

We are here...... We Need to go there...... food and jobs.

We need not shake fists. We need not point fingers. Rather, real good will be derived from shining the light of hope.... the light that a plan brings to the faces of those that fall farther and farther behind. ... the average man. Let us do all we can to support our local food, our local economy, our local life-style. Every other locale must, then, do the same. The BIG DISTRACTION, The BIG LIE is that we live and die as a nation. The fact of the matter is that we will live and die as cities,… Continue
