The Time For Talking Has Past...
The time for talk has passed. We are currently assessing the need for a local cooperative that would funnel fresh, naturally grown, naturally ripened, naturally raised food into our city. It is this simple. If we verify the need, and I think we will; if we put our locally produced food into our homes, our schools, our hospitals, and our businesses, we will IMMEDIATELY pump hundreds of…

Moms 4 Local Food meeting 11:30 today at the Gastropub!
All are welcome to the Mom’s 4 Local Food meeting at the Gastropub, next to the Moxie, on Patton St., at 11:30. We need you! Women , and men… gotta say that so I don’t get all yelled at every time, will create the demand that will pull our local food through this economy. This is huge, it will lead to new investment in our town ( food processing), use of our food by institutions, businesses and homes…

It is on Everyone's Mind....
I was at a 5k run this morning representing the WFNA and local food and jobs, and was impressed that almost everyone I talked to had their own reason for buying in. Some mothers were interested in better food for their children in the school system. Some saw the immediate upside to our local economy. Some saw the impact local food could have on the local merchant in general through…

Wonder if Rome saw it coming?
Job losses continue at a decreasing rate. That means job losses continue. The dollars validity on the world market is questioned almost every week. China just took surpassed us for the umpteenth time in production…. This time wood. They get the wood from us by the way. Our economy and our supply lines stretch across the world. The Jobs that are/will come back ( they won’t approach…

Let Me Bring You Up To Speed!
Yesterday was a huge day. As part of the feasibility assessment for the Well-Fed Neighbor Farmers’ Coop, we met with major restaurant owners and managers to talk about a sustainable, fair business model. Discussions were inspiring and fruitful! I am convinced, should the data prove adequate demand and supply, that the Springfield Metro Area may be the first locale in the US that can truly…

A Value Chain?
What are value chains? The modern day version of a very old American model. Long ago, settlements NEEDED specific things. They NEEDED a general store. This was the supermarket, the hardware store, etc. Settlements needed a blacksmith. Settlements needed meat from ranchers in the area, produce and dairy from the farmers in the area.
We could argue if they needed a saloon. Regardless, it is easy to see that each of these key people/institutions were a must. A…

Let's change what we CAN change. Don't talk! DO!
The Right says Healthcare reform marks the end of America. The Left wants health coverage for all…. Regardless. Status quo has health care costs rising at mind bending rates. The Change… who knows. Regardless,
what in the world do you think YOU can do about it? Not one thing.
It’s not about you. It’s not about health……….. and it’s certainly not
about care.
What it is about is the theater that is Politics.
What CAN we change? Our LOCAL situation. What we can do is…

Women comprise the largest economic force on the face of the earth so.........
We need stay at home mothers, professional women, and all permutations across the spectrum to help with our message. To be economically viable, locally grown food cannot just be found at Farmers' markets. It must have a place in your homes, in your schools, and in your hospitals. When this happens, we will have an economic engine that will support a real, ever-growing job base. AND, we'll have healthy, fresh food for our children…
