Dillons Ad for Locally grown fresh foods

I receive the weekly ad for Dillons and much to my surprise and delight their ad focuses on locally grown produce. Someone at Dillons is paying attention. I'd love to know more about which farms they purchase food from. Anyway, this is a positive step in the right direction. Smart move, Dillons.

This all sounds good, but in the case of some of the big boys like Chinamart, it is a matter of definition of terms. key word is terms. Term vs word. When we say local, we may mean the Ozarks or even as close as our county. But to some of the big retailers, local means that it comes to us through a local distribution point. So the food can still come from China but come to us through the local regional food warehouse.
I am hoping that Dillons is taking a different position on the subject, but however, they are owned by a bigger company.
Do your due diligence on this please and report back with an update.

Thanks for your post Bill. Sometimes corporate "rules" and "requirements" can really slow progress. Hopefully this will work out. They have to be aware of the wishes of the public by now and how it can and will affect their business.

I spoke with an employee at Dillons on E Sunshine. He said that from what he has heard they are working out the insurance details with the produce providers. He stated that in the past Dillons has attempted to do similar and found that the farmers in our area unwilling to carry the insurance required by their corporation. He was optimistic that this would or has already been done due to the advertising. Sounds good!
