Dr. Bill Roston Native Butterfly House, in Close Memorial Park
Springfield Botanical Gardens, 2400 S. Scenic Ave., Springfield, MO 65807
Who we are: The Bill Roston Native Butterfly House is an educational project, run by volunteers and free of charge to visitors. We are open from May through September. We display all life stages of native butterflies and moths and the plants and flowers they depend on. Volunteers raise the butterflies, tend the plants, and staff the Butterfly House in the evenings and on weekends. We welcomed thousands of visitors last year, but we need your help to do more!
Our goal: We want to be open on weekdays too! We are asking your help to fund a paid summer internship to keep the Butterfly House open on weekdays during the peak season, from mid-May through August. This will be a great summer job and opportunity to gain experience in education, parks and recreation, and the biology of some amazing and beloved insects. The Butterfly House Intern will help tend the Butterfly Garden, care for the caterpillars, and educate visitors. Hopefully we can grow this fund can to provide the internship each summer.
Friends of the Garden and Missouri State University are partnering to raise the funds. The goal is to raise $5,000 through MSU’s crowdfunding web site to help fund the internship. This program is important to Springfield, Greene County and beyond. Won’t you help? Invest a little and the community, especially the kids this summer, will gain a lot.
